Summer 2020
Hi all,
Hope you are all well and enjoying the slow return to normality. It has been a difficult and uncertain
time for everyone and hopefully things will continue on the positive trend.
Well done to all of you who have worked very hard at home throughout our time out of school. A
special well done to all the patient Mammys and Daddys who have worked extremely hard to keep
you all up to speed and ready to return to your new class in September.
Hopefully we will all be back in school as normal and back with all our friends come September.
Have a lovely Summer and I look forward seeing you all fit and well in a couple of months.
Kind Regards,
P.Carroll
*******Book Returns*******
Dear Parents/Guardians
On the evening of Thursday 18th of June the class teachers will be returning any belongings, books and copies belonging to the children and they will be collecting any books from the school book scheme. It is essential that the school books are returned on Thursday as we want to avoid unnecessary interaction at the start of the new term. If you are unable to attend please arrange with another parent to return books and collect belongings on your behalf.
The teachers will set up just inside the school gate. There will be two time slots from 5-6pm for Juniors to 2nd Class and from 6-7pm for 3rd to 6th Class.
We ask that only parents attend and that the social distancing guidelines are carefully observed.
Kind Regards,
Ms Fullam

Week: Monday 11th to Friday 15th May 2020
Hi all,
Here is the 1st & 2nd class work for this week & remember if you are having any issues or difficulty with any of it don’t hesitate to contact me at [email protected] and I will get back to you as soon as I can.
*As per usual, this assigned work is a guideline to support your child’s continued learning at home, do not stress them or yourself pushing to get it all done.
Thank you & stay safe,
P. Carroll
First Class Work Only:
English:
Reading: Unit 14: ‘Spring Picnic Planning’ pgs 45-54
The new first class reader can be accessed here:
https://www.gillexplore.ie/gill-explore-resources/over-the-moon-first-class-skills-book
Skills Book: Unit 14: ‘Spring Picnic Planning’ pgs 101-108 (this can be done alongside the reading or after the reading).
My Spelling Workbook: work on through the next Unit (next 4 pages)... Friday Spelling Test optionalJ
Maths:
Master Your Maths: Work on through the next week (Mon-Thur) & finish with the test on Friday.
Busy at Maths: Chapter 33 ‘Fractions’ pgs 96-101
This chapter deals with halves: identifying objects that are divided in half, dividing objects in half themselves & dividing small sets/numbers in half.
*Remember to emphasise that something divided in half is divided into 2 equal parts not just 2 random pieces*
*Also, when halving numbers, a ‘double’ will reveal the two halves of its answer.
Example: 2+2=4 therefore half of 4 is 2...
Only even numbers can be halved (remember... start at 2 and count up in twos to find your even numbers)
Second Class Work Only:
English:
Reading: Unit 15 ‘Lainey’s box of Delights’ pgs 115-124
Skills Book: Unit 15 ‘Lainey’s box of Delights’ pgs 109-116... This can be done alongside the reading or after the reading.
My Spelling Workbook: work on through the next Unit (next 4 pages)...Friday Spelling Test optionalJ
Maths:
Master Your Maths: Work on through the next week (Mon-Thur) & finish with the test on Friday.
Busy at Maths: Chapter 31 ‘Rotations & Angles’ pgs 122 & 123
Short one this week for the 2nd class: pg 122 deals with identifying objects that rotate and turn, the children will be asked to identify full turns, half turns & quarter turns.
Pg 123 introduces right angles i.e. an angle where a horizontal line and vertical line meet.
Both First & Second Class
Gaeilge: Unit 24: ‘Ag Péinteáil’ pgs 118-123: all words games/poems/songs are available free to access on Folens online.
These are the interactive resources we use in school for our lessons. Just Google Folens free access & follow the instructions to registar. Then go to Abair Liom C.
*Activities can be completed in their ‘Abair Liom’ books for this unit alongside the interactive stuff. Again, just do your best with the Gaeilge guys, we will revise all & brush up when we get back to school. ThanksJ

Hi all,
Hope you are well and enjoying the sunshine. Here is the plan for the week for 1st and 2nd class.
Also, I have received an email from Fr. Sean confirming that First Communion is postponed. A new date will be set for Communion as soon as these restrictions are eased and we have a bit more clarity on how things will get back on track. I will relay any new information to you here, as soon as I get it.
(*Remember, as per usual, this assigned work is a guideline to support your child’s continued learning at home, do not stress them or yourself pushing to get it all done)
Thank you & stay safe,
P. Carroll

Easter:
Hi all,
As Sunday is the start of Holy Week, here is a short synopsis of the events for your children to read. I've also included some colouring pages of the main events of the Easter story. Children can read the short summary under each picture onscreen or print them off and colour if you have access to a printer.
This is a fun Easter activity for the children & is completely optional.
Enjoy your Easter holidays everybody & stay safe.
Hope to see you all soon.

Week: Monday 30th March to Friday 3rd April 2020
Hi all,
Hope you are well. Here is some work to keep the children going for the week. I would suggest splitting it up evenly & spending a set amount of time at it each day. Feel free to do as much or as little as you feel appropriate for your child & don’t worry about “getting it all done”... this is merely a guideline to continually support your child’s learning. If you did not get an opportunity to collect your child’s books on Friday, don’t worry, they are all available online.
Thank you & stay safe,
P. Carroll

1st & 2nd Class Parents,
I hope you are all keeping well during these strange and worrying times. As we will not be returning to school for the foreseeable future I would like to give you the opportunity to collect your child’s workbooks from the School.
I will pack each pupil’s books in an individually labelled bag for collection from the front of the school between 10am and 11am on Friday morning, 27th March.
I will then be assigning weekly work starting on Monday next. The aim of this is to keep the children up to speed on their learning and help add a small bit of structure to their days during these unusual weeks. There is no pressure whatsoever to complete all assigned work by the time we return to school. It is merely a guideline to their continued learning and I will leave it up to you to decide what’s appropriate based on your own situations during this difficult time.
If you have any questions relating to the work or the book collection on Friday then feel free to contact me at this email address: [email protected]
I will do my best to reply as promptly as possible.
Many thanks & stay safe,
P. Carroll
