Welcome to our new School Year!
Valentines Day Art 2020
- The children in Junior and Senior Infants loved doing their Valentines Art today!
Dogs Trust Visit 15th January
Paul from Dogs Trust came to visit our class with his beautiful lurcher Magic. She was very well behaved. She lay on her mat with her water bowl and her toys. Paul gave her treats every now and again for being so good. Paul spoke to us about all the things we need to look after dogs properly, for example; water, dog food, a dog bed, dog treats, a collar, a lead and some dog toys. He also spoke to us about being safe around dogs, never petting a dog that doesn't have an owner with them and always asking a dog's owner if we can pet them. If the owner says yes we should put our hand out to let the dog sniff it before we pet them. He also taught us how to use the 'x factor' if a dog runs up to us and we are afraid.
December's Theme was the Post Office
We learned about how the Post Office works. The Irish Post Office is always green and the English Royal mail is always red. We sent postcards and letters to our friends and family. The cashiers in the post office gave us envelopes and stamps. We could also fill in forms to apply for passports, tv licences and pet licenses. Our post office turned into a Christmas post office and we wrote more letters to Santa and the elves.
Our Theme for November was the Supermarket.
Here are some photos of some of the activities we did. Our roll play area was a supermarket. We made brochures for our own shops, we wrote shopping lists, finished patterns, played shopping games and lots more.
Science Fair
As November 11th - 18th is Science Week, fifth and sixth class put on a science fair where we got to see them doing some cool experiments such as making glow in the dark paint, making slime, kinetic sand and melting plastic cups. We really enjoyed our time, well done to fifth and sixth class and thank you :)
Meditation
We have been meditating in our classroom since we started school in August. Teacher used the Relax Kids books for scripts. We play soft music to set the scene and we can sit or lie down to relax. Since coming back to school in November we have been meditating in the mornings, we make the classroom good and dark by closing the blinds and the doors, turning off the lights and muting the interactive whiteboard. We have a star night light which creates an amazing blue galaxy sky with stars on our ceiling and boards. We look forward to our time to chill out in the mornings and we are ready to concentrate on our work afterwards.
Happy Halloween Everyone. Have a peep at some of the fun we had to celebrate Halloween, We all dressed up using recycled materials and played some traditional Halloween games with our class.
Aistear
Aistear is an early childhood curriculum framework. It provides enjoyable and appropriately challenging learning experiences for the children through play in the classroom. You can find out more about Aistear using the link provided.

We introduced Aistear to Junior infants in October. Our theme was Autumn / Fire safety / Halloween. We learned about the fire station and what we need to do to keep ourselves and our families fire safe. We learned that autumn is the time to prepare for winter, some animals gather food before they hibernate and some birds migrate. We constructed beds for the animals for winter. We searched for seeds from the different trees in our water and sand trays. We found conkers from the horse chestnut tree, acorns from the oak tree, cones from pine trees and helicopters from sycamore trees. We also did some Halloween art and carved and de-seeded pumpkins.
